Finance Valuation Control (FVC) supports the purpose by creating and maintaining effective control and governance over the valuation and disclosures associated with all Fair Value products held on the LGB balance sheet. This involves daily reporting of profit and loss, verifying prices independently, and overseeing core valuation meetings with internal and external customers.

Job Description

The Head of Product Control is responsible for coordinating a team of technical finance specialists. They are in charge of leading all aspects of the daily P&L production for both the trading desks and treasury desks of LBG. They report to the Finance Director for Finance Valuation Control. Using your keen eye for detail and strong technical knowledge you’ll lead a team that brings together, interprets, and analyses multiple streams of financial information to calculate, explain and provide commentary on all daily P&L associated with a busy trading desk. You will also represent the function at senior internal and external meetings discussing daily P&L and trading controls.

The role is a Key Leadership role within FVC, requiring strong leadership skills to actively support and contribute to the delivery of the Group and FVC strategy. This includes shaping operating models, influencing important team members, and contributing to planning and business decision-making by providing insight, control and thought leadership.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Being the trusted advisor to senior stakeholders for all product control activities, controls, and practices;
  • Owning the production of daily P&Ls and explaining movements whilst maintaining outstanding levels of documentation and governance
  • Using your expertise in technical accounting, valuation methodologies, and industry standard processes for product control to craft the future vision of FVC.
  • Leading on the support of business process reviews across FVC.

What skills are required?

  • We are looking for a qualified accountant who has demonstrated their expertise through a diverse range of senior roles in the banking and financial services industry;
  • The ideal candidate should possess significant experience in traded products, valuation methodologies, and daily P&L production / explanation. This should include expertise in Fixed Income, Credit, xVA, and medium- and short-term Funding.
  • The ability to develop strong working relationships and influence at senior levels internally and externally; and
  • Proven leadership skills, with a track record of managing and leading successful teams; and
  • An inquisitive personality with a desire to challenge how we do things
