Job Description

Together operates a hybrid change delivery model, leveraging the best of agile and scrum practices alongside a portfolio of projects that are governed and executed against a more traditional project framework.

The Senior Product Owner role is a member of the Agile Team responsible for defining Product Backlog Items (PBIs) and prioritising the Team Backlog to streamline the execution of business priorities while maintaining the conceptual and technical integrity of the Features or components for the team.

The Senior Product Owner is likely to have responsibility for more complex work which may span more than one team, involve third parties or be involved in new / lesser known technologies.

This role has significant relationships and responsibilities outside the local team, including working with Product Management, End Users, Business Owners, and other key stakeholders

 

As a Senior Product Owner, typical duties would include:

  • Ensure that vision and strategy are communicated and understood inside the team to ensure alignment and commitment.
  • Understand the market, customer, product EOL (end of life), product technology and roadmap. Build the associated change into the delivery plan.
  • Identify, define and prioritise enablers (includes negotiation and agreement in team, RTEs and business).
  • Support key stakeholders with the provision of new change to drive value based on data, research and feasibility.
  • Actively challenge and influence the Product Roadmap with the Product Manager to ensure we are delivering the right solutions at the right time.
  • Own and maintain the Product Backlog, which may span across multiple teams, ensuring that it is well refined and prioritised for maximum value delivery in line with the train priorities/ the Product Roadmap.
  • PO data ownership – management or delegation to team as appropriate.
  • Defines sprint goal with input from appropriate team members.
  • Leading backlog refinement sessions by defining user stories that representing the needs of the customer/ end user.
  • Providing guidance and support during development cycle and resolving delivery constraints
  • Accept completed work: assess and confirm whether work delivered meets the definition of done.
  • Recommend hard calls on MVP and scope to get work done and collaborate with the business areas to ensure alignment.
  • Operates as part of extended Product team collaborating with other Product Owners to ensure dependencies and constraints are managed.
  • Collaborate with Change Managers to ensure that business and end user impact is considered in delivery of change.
  • Support your team and other teams in your train when production release out of hours support is required for releases including post implementation verification and end to end functional testing in production.
  • Work with the Service Desk and Train to provide Application support to all core applications in your team.

Qualifications

 

  • Ability to influence stakeholders 
  • Experience working within a Financial Services business
  • Has demonstrable analytical skills
  • Ability to work happily within both 'traditional' /Waterfall and Agile methodologies
